The area

Howard's Hideaway sits on Marmot Road in the Sandy River corridor — a legendary stretch of Oregon's Mt. Hood Territory where old-growth forest meets world-class outdoor recreation. You are in the heart of it all.
Water & Fishing: The Sandy River — a 56-mile Columbia River tributary — is one of Oregon's most storied steelhead and salmon rivers. The river and its tributaries run practically through your backyard, offering excellent year-round angling. Nearby Cedar Creek hosts a fish hatchery, and the stretch around Marmot Road is renowned for winter steelhead (March–May) and fall Chinook.

Mt. Hood Adventures: Timberline Lodge and Mt. Hood Meadows ski resort are approximately 25–30 minutes up the mountain. In summer, the same roads lead to Ramona Falls, Mirror Lake, Trillium Lake, Little Zigzag Falls, and dozens of hiking and mountain biking trails.
Sandy Ridge Trail System: World-class mountain biking just minutes away, with trails suited for all skill levels.

Jonsrud Viewpoint: A local favorite just minutes toward town in Sandy — sweeping panoramic views of Mt. Hood and the Sandy River Valley, perfect for a quick sunrise stop.
Wildwood Recreation Site: A beloved nature park in nearby Welches with walking paths, the Cascade Streamwatch, and interpretive trails great for families.

The Town of Sandy: About 15 minutes west, Sandy is a charming small town with local restaurants, breweries, coffee shops, grocery stores, and everything you need to stock up before heading into the forest.

Portland: For those wanting a city day, downtown Portland is approximately 45 minutes west on US-26 — home to world-class food, Powell's Books, the Oregon Zoo, and the vibrant Pearl District.

A car is required and recommended for exploring the area. Ample free parking is available at the property. US-26 (the Mt. Hood Corridor) is the main artery connecting you to Sandy, Welches, Government Camp, Timberline Lodge, and Hood River beyond the mountain. The drive itself through the Mt. Hood National Forest is scenic year-round.
